Tuesday, May 13, 2014 WOW-Zine

What a glorious day, huh? I hear the rain is supposed to come back over the weekend, so make sure you get out and enjoy this weather while you can. Yesterday was my Sabbath, and I enjoyed pulling weeds and planting flowers. What do you like to do to relax? I hope you're able to make time to do whatever it is.

Thanks to all of you who signed up right away to provide meals for the Steele family. I know it is really appreciated. The only day still unprovided for is Saturday, so if you'd like to fill that gap, just go to

We're continuing our Bible study on Cultivating Contentment this week, and I really hope you can join us. Both studies meet at the church--Common Grounds at 6:30 Wednesday night, and The Perk on Thursday morning at 9:30. You don't have to do any prep ahead of time--just show up with your Bible and perhaps a notebook. Amy R. is on for treats this Thursday, with Keisha filling the role of Mother In Charge (MIC) for childcare. I will be out of town next week, so you'll be having a guest teacher at both studies--Rita! It's so nice to have someone willing to fill in for me while I'm gone.

With Kristen having given birth last week, Wapato now seems to be taking a family-expansion breather until our next round of babies starts up in the fall. So this seems like the perfect time to let you know about a change as far as showers go. The ladies who have been involved in hosting both bridal and baby showers are feeling the need to remove some of the things on their plates. (This is known as "activity dieting". I just made that up!) Planning showers takes a lot of work, and so many of us are busy on the weekends with family activities and unable to attend the showers. Your Women's Ministry Team met last week and discussed this situation, and we agree that it's in the best interest of all of us to let friends host showers if they would like, but to not have them be a Wapato sponsored event. So if you're having a baby and a friend would like to host a shower for you in a private home, go for it! You can personally invite people you'd like to attend, but it will not go out to the whole church. It's actually a retro idea--the way showers were done waaay back when I was a young woman. Women will still be recognized with a gift card and meals (for babies), but we'll let you make it more personal as far as throwing a shower goes.

Until next time,
Sherrie Ashcraft, Women's Ministry Director
