So, it's the last day of a short month, but I imagine all of us are glad to see it come. It means one more month of winter is behind us! Maybe we can start giving in to the spring fever that seems to strike around this time of year. Spring through fall is my favorite time of year, which I guess gives you a pretty good clue as to how I feel about winter. I don't mind the rain, but I really dislike the cold. Wish I could access my hot flashes on demand! They're never there when I need them!
Do you have some good ideas to share of how to make the most of the last month of winter? Do you have some soul talk you say to give yourself as much of a positive outlook as possible? Or do you find yourself spiraling into a this-cold-and-rain-will-never end frame of mind? Why don't you take a minute to give a friend a call and invite her over for coffee or tea? Better yet, think of someone you don't know well but would love to get to know better. Invite them over. It honestly doesn't matter if your house isn't perfect or you have no homemade goodies to go along with the coffee. What's important is that we make time for each other.
Many of us will get to spend a lot of quality time with each other this weekend. RETREAT IS FINALLY HERE! By Friday evening, a whole heartbeat of women will be gathered in Lincoln City to relax, rejuvenate, and renew our committment to love well. I've previewed Beth Moore's video called Loving Well and I'm excited for the rest of you to see it too. There will be wonderful little gifts awaiting you on your arrival, lots of good food, and best of all, each other! I'll be sending out a final retreat letter (Retreat Report #3) on Tuesday, with last-minute items. Driving directions will be included. Coming soon to an inbox near you!
Now to those of you who are unable to attend next weekend, stop crying! You have a chance to have a retreat of your own at Ashberry Lane the weekend of May 13th and 14th. While the house is not as luxurious as the retreat rental (there's no elevator at Ashberry Lane) there is still plenty of space to enjoy. I haven't figured out all the particulars yet, but we'll have one session on Friday night, and on Saturday a session in the morning and two in the afternoon. There will be time for viewing of the video in the home theater, as well as relaxing in the hot tub, surrounded by trees and no neighbors in sight. I've already heard from a couple ladies who would like to attend, so I need to get an "I'll be there!" from a few more of you to be able to pull it off. I think I can do it for only $20 per person. So please check your calendar and get in touch with me. You know who you are!
We have a Women's Ministry Team meeting tonight, so by next week I'll be able to share more information with you about the Mother/Daughter event scheduled for Saturday, April 9th. In the meantime, keep that date open. You won't want to miss out.
This Wednesday we'll be meeting for Common Grounds at 6:30 at the church. It doesn't matter if you've never attended before--now is the perfect time to join us. I had already prepared the lesson on Saturday night, and when I sat under Pastor Pete's preaching this Sunday I was amazed at how well they connected. We've looked at how to tell our soul to Awake each morning. The last two times we delved into Look Up. This week we'll discuss Calm Down. It has to do with anger and peace and what place they have in our lives. We'll look at how to choose peace in the midst of difficult times. I think it's something we can all identify with, so I hope to see you there.

Yippeee! I'm the first to comment! I haven't even read it! ;o) But I will go back and do that now...
ReplyDeleteDID I get to really post the first comment?! I am so looking foward to retreat with all you ladies! See you soon! And just think to keep warm make hot cocoa and relax and read a good book, it makes the winter time seem so peaceful! (the familiar stranger is a great one to read)!
ReplyDeleteAmy A~
PS way to go Sherrie you are early!!!
So now we've got the two Amys duking it out for First Comment! I think I'll have to declare it a tie. Amy A actually READ it, which is what should really count, but Amy R had faster fingers. Do you think some people are just born with a competetive bent??!! And thanks for the plug for Christina's book, Amy A!
ReplyDeleteNow that I got my comment in, I can relax... and I did read it! I know I have a hard time finding joy in the rain. It's downright miserable, if you ask me! I don't enjoy getting wet and windblown. Yesterday I dropped my phone and my Bible in the mud on the way out to the car, and it landed open, face down. My phone has a bunch of dents now, too! But enough complaining... I'm supposed to be finding SOMETHING positive... I always remind myself that the rain blesses us with beautiful greens! And Oregon is one of the most beautiful places in the world because of all the green. That's how I try to be positive about the weather.
ReplyDeleteI'm really looking forward to the retreat! But I will miss Christina not being there... :o(
Yes, but is she homeschooling four kids at the same time?!
ReplyDeletezoh, Amy, I think yesterday was miserable weather!! It was such a cold moisture that was assulting us. I had to change Lili's clothes when she got home, as she'd gone outside after church and got quite dampened! But I totally agree with you about the beauty here that only comes because of the rain. So true in our spiritual life too! Sorry about your Bible and phone. Christina dropped her Bible in the tub (I believe it was) one time, and it's never been the same since. It ballooned all out of shape and has stayed that way. And yes, I'm really going to miss my girlie at the retreat, but she's doing something very worthwhile by working for World Vision at the Revolve conference. I'm so glad she's taking our son's daughter to it. Cassie and Andrea should have a fantastic experience!
ReplyDeletewell.. I am suuuuper late.. but I was a working girl today ;) when beauty calls, no time to beat everyone to the first commenter.. I can say the rain is just depressing.. I am just hoping ti gets colder so it turns back to SNOW!!!!! I love winter!! snowy winter and way a beautiful cold crisp day with snow or even better a day after snow with beautiful blue skies and all bundled up warm drinking something hot while wearing a cute warm sweater and some cute furry boots on a nice walk!! LOVE IT!! or sitting inside by a warm fire snuggling up with a hot hubby!! ;0) you know the rest!! I do love summer... and BBQ, I think when I get my hott body I will love it more, summer is soo revealing and I don't got my sexy right now.. winter you can bundle and layer up and hide it all :) anywho wont be hiding it this weekend in the HOT TUB!!! ;0) soo jazzed it is already this week!! yahoo, see you weds night, love to hear you!! ohhh and no christina???!! ohh my.. well next yr for sure cuz then she'll have lots of juicy marriage secrets and BR tips for us!!!
ReplyDeleteHmm, all day long I had a feeling that people were talking about me ... wonder where that came from?!? lol
ReplyDeleteGlad to know I will be missed. Mom, your version makes me sound extra spiritual, like I read my Bible during bubble baths! It actually fell off the bed in the back of the trailer on a bumpy road after camping, then a ice chest bumped so much the little plug fell out and it soaked it.
Ladies, I will really miss you all, but since Revolve is focusing on girls and their relationship with boys, I'm thrilled Cass and Andrea will get to be encouraged to make good choices!
Too funny, Christina! I was already kicking myself for not reading my Bible in the tub! hahaha
ReplyDeleteMy very first "grown up" Bible went splaying into a mud puddle on my walk to school when I'd had it for less than a month. Later, our first dog ate some of the leather right off the binding! I've kept it with this hope that someday I'll copy all my margin notes to just one Bible. Pipe dream?
Chrissy, hurray for another day of snow!! Winter is so much more cheery with snow, right? And think of all the comfort food you can make in the winter that is just impossible in the heat of summer. Isn't that the real reason for layering and sweatshirts? Hide the evidence until summer can melt it away. :)
Chrissy, I was sooo glad you finally wrote last night, as I can't go to bed Monday nights without hearing from you!! I like the snow if I can just stay home and watch it from indoors, but if I have to be out and about, I much prefer the rain.
ReplyDeleteChristina, now I remember the whole story!! I just like to make it sound like I brought you up to read your Bible when you're bathing. You know, clean yourself inside and out!! And yes, you'll have to come to retreat next year, just to reconnect with all the Wapato women. That would be fun.
Tami, funny that you and Amy R both have "fallen Bible" stories. As to transferring all your margin notes from one Bible to another, I don't know if you'll ever get around to that. It's a great goal though! PS--did you catch up on your Retreat Reports? ha, ha.
Hey Ladies,
ReplyDeleteHere are a couple of links for a devotional and a song that fit right in with all we talked about last night at Common Grounds.
