Monday, September 2, 2013 WOW-Zine

Happy Labor Day, ladies! Though I think the real Labor Day is tomorrow when you try to get back on schedule with getting the kids out of bed, out the door, and to school on time. Good luck with that--ha ha! I'm giving you a week to get used to your new schedule before Women's Ministry activities start back up.

So that means, Bible Studies start NEXT week!! I hope you've missed them as much as I have the past weeks. It's time to make it a habit to get together each week with some ladies who will become some of your best friends, if they're not already. If you've never attended in the past, now is your chance to get in on the very beginning of the study, though people can certainly come in at any time during the year. But there's just something special about being being in from the get-go. This year we will work our way through the very practical book of James using a Beth Moore study called Mercy Triumphs. You won't want to miss it!

For those of you who may be new to the women's Bible studies, let me explain how it works. I teach the same lesson twice each week, so if it doesn't work for your schedule on one day, hopefully it will for the other. Wednesday nights our study is called Common Grounds, and we meet from 6:30 to a little after 8. The first 15 minutes are spent getting our snacks and visiting, and then we have prayer requests and get into the study itself. If your work hours don't allow you to make it there until 7, you'd still be just fine. And sometimes women bring along their dinner to eat there. On Thursday mornings, from 9:30 to 11, The Perk meets. The main difference is that childcare is provided. Both studies meet at the church.

I mentioned that we have snacks at the beginning of each session. Usually I have a sign-up sheet available, but we haven't met yet so don't have anyone who has volunteered for next week. If you're interested in helping out, I'll take the first lady that offers to bring something for Wednesday night or Thursday morning. Send me a message letting me know. We also need a MIC (Mother in Charge) for childcare next Thursday, the 12th.

This coming Saturday, September 7th, there will be a garage sale in the Tire Man parking lot, headed up by Nathalie. There are different ways people need assistance during their lives and Nathalie's good friend, Gonzala, needs to earn a little extra income right now. If you have items that you'd like to donate to this fund raiser, call Nathalie at 503-705-4448 for more information. Or come by the parking lot after 9 AM and find a treasure!

How would you like to relax by watching a movie under the stars? Sounds good, doesn't it? Well, Saturday, September 14th, is your chance to do just that. We are having a Starlight Movie Night at Rita's ( 48883 SW Patton Valley Road, Gaston) beginning at 7 PM. Who knows how cool it will be in the evening by then, so plan to bring your air mattress if you'd like to lie down to watch, or a lawn chair for sitting, along with a warm blankie to keep comfortable. Popcorn and hot cocoa will be provided. This event is just for women. I'll provide directions in the WOW-Zine next week.

Women of Faith will be rocking the Rose Garden the weekend of October 4th and 5th. I have five tickets still available at a discounted price of $81 each. Picnic lunches are available for an additional cost of $12, but I'll let each of you decide if you want to order them (must be done by September 26th) or not. I'm thinking it might be worth it to not have to fight the crowds to walk to a nearby restaurant. I'll send the information in a couple of weeks to those of you who have bought tickets, so you can order the boxed lunch if you'd like. I've reserved 3 rooms at the same motel we stayed in last year (Quality Inn and Suites Portland Airport), which will cost you somewhere between $20 to $30 for the night, depending on how many people we have.(We will have room for two extra women to stay with us.) Don't wait until the last moment--buy your tickets now!

Your Women's Ministry Team met last week, and do we ever have a lot of neat things planned for this year! There should be something for everyone, from things like the big Women of Faith conference, to sewing classes, to a special seminar on dealing with depression, to bowling, to game nights, to our spring retreat, etc. Be sure to read the WOW-Zine every week to get all the details, as you won't want to miss what's happening!

Until next week,
