Surf's Up, Dude! Vacation Bible School, entitled Sonsurf Beach Bash began this morning. I was at the church for a while helping with registration and saw many of you there. What a great team Janet has put together!! Excited kids from K-6 will be at the church from 8:45 to 11:30 every day through Thursday. If your children missed today, it's not too late to get them involved. (Plus it might give you some much-needed quiet time around the house!)
Loving Well Session Two--We meet this Wednesday evening at 6:30 to dive into another dynamic discussion based on the Beth Moore video series. Attendance has been wonderful at both the Wednesday evening and Thursday morning sessions, which meet on alternate weeks. Encouragement and understanding are in abundance as we share what the Lord is teaching us in this challenging area of love. Feel free to join us even if you haven't had a chance to read the workbook or answer the questions.
Hot Tub Party--After putting in four days of service at VBS, you're going to need an opportunity to relax. I've got the perfect solution for you. Join WOW at a hot tub party at my house (24090 Wapato School Road, Gaston) this Friday, July 1, from 7-9 PM. Bring some snacky-type stuff to share and sit back and enjoy the warm, soothing water and a bunch of fun conversation. No program, no agenda, no stress. Just a good time with good friends. (And no, you don't need to be involved in VBS to attend.)
Exercise Your Right to Exercise! Some of you know that for the past three weeks Janet and I have been doing Zumba together. We're having so much fun (at least that's what we try to tell ourselves!) that we've decided we'd like to share it with you! So beginning next Tuesday morning at 8 we will open the church for an hour-long Zumba class on Tuesday and Thursday mornings throughout the summer. The first class just happens to fall on July 4th, which may not be ideal, but on the other hand it gives you a chance to pre-earn those calories you'll be ingesting at a barbeque later in the day! Zumba is a Latin-based jazzercise-type thing. It doesn't matter if your feet aren't real coordinated just as long as you move. As Janet says, it's a time for us to Wiggle, Jiggle, and Giggle!
Just wear appropriate workout clothes and bring a bottle of water, as you'll need it. Child care is not available at the church. Now I know there are plenty of you who are already complaining because you work during the day and can't make the class. All I can say is, "I'm sorry!" We'll have to see what we can work out (no pun intended) for you. One of my goals as Women's Ministry Director is to provide opportunities for women to grow in all areas of their lives, which includes the physical.
So that's a quick wrap-up of what's going on for Women Of Wapato this week. Find a place that you can plug in and come be part of the fun.

Sorry I'm so late with this today, but I've been in Grandma Heaven all day and nearly forgot to come down to earth! We picked up our three Ashcraft grand kids on Sunday evening and have the joy of their presence at Ashberry Lane for the week. It's always fun to spend time with them, as well as get all the cousins together. We've got trips planned to the zoo, a picnic by a creek, a jaunt to the cousins' house, and hopefully roasting marshmellows in the back yard. Good times ... yeah, good times!
WOW has had good times at both sessions of lesson one of Loving Well these past two weeks. This Thursday (the 23rd) morning at 10 or next Wednesday (the 29th) evening at 6:30 session two will be offered. We'll be looking at the four things about love that will help us with the challenge to love others. As you know, that's not always an easy thing to do! Don't you want all the help and insight you can get? Even if you don't have the book, we'd love for you to join us as we discuss questions such as:
~What difference does it make for your love for others to be motivated by God's love for you?
~How do you feel when you consider the constant nature of God's love?
~Why is our love so much less constant than God's?
Coming up on Friday, July 1st, is the Hot Tub Party at Ashberry Lane. I know it's the beginning of a holiday weekend, but not everyone leaves town. So if you're one of the "homies" come to my place from 7-9 PM for a chance to hang out with your gal pals. Bring a snack to share, a towel, swimsuit, stretch marks, and cellulite. We welcome them all. (The only thing not allowed is perfection!)
October may seem off in the distance, but it's not too early to plan a weekend to remember by attending the Women of Faith Conference October 7th and 8th. The program begins Friday at 10 AM and is through by 5 PM Saturday. Cost is $99, but if we buy tickets for ten people or more the cost goes down to $89. Anyone interested in attending with me? We can get rooms at a nearby motel and make the experience even more fun. I'll keep sharing little tidbits of info from time to time to whet your appetite, but I can tell you, you really want to make this happen! Let me know if you're interested.
I'd love to visit more, but midnight will soon be here. Nothing like squeaking this blog in under my own self-imposed wire! I look forward to seeing a bunch of you for session two on Thursday morning, a Scoggins Creek mocha in hand.

Remember that old television commercial that asked the life-altering question "Where's the beef?" I think it's time to change that up a bit and ask "Where's the summer?" This weather is craziness, isn't it?! Good thing I've got Zumba to keep me warm, as I'm sure not feelin' it outside.
But no matter the temp outside, you'll find a warm welcome when you come to the first session of Loving Well this Wednesday night at 6:30 at the church. Those of us who made it to the Thursday morning session last week had a really wonderful time. There just seemed to be a special sweetness and openness in our time of sharing together. Remember, you don't have to have a copy of the book, or even have seen the video, in order to attend. If it makes you feel more prepared, here are some of the questions we'll take a look at:
~Do I love others better than I did five years ago?
~Am I growing in my ability to love others more openly with more vulnerability?
~Read I John 4:7-17 and write down everything it says about love.
~In what ways have you been hurt so that you tried to bind up your heart with duct tape?
This is a very casual study, so bring your own beverage, pull up a chair, and join the circle!
This coming Saturday is the Ice Cream Social, an opportunity for adults to play outdoor games, fellowship together, and enjoy sweet treats. The men's group is providing the ice cream, so just bring one of your favorite toppings along to Kent and Kathy Fordyce's for the all-you-can-eat-there's-always-Zumba-to-kick-your-you-know-what-tomorrow eating frenzy. This event is for adults only, so drop your kids off at the annex, where childcare will be provided from 6-8:30. Please bring a donation for the child care, as the money will go toward funding future youth events.
Next week we will meet Thursday at 10 AM for session two of Loving Well. Let me know if you would like to borrow the video series if you were unable to attend either of the retreats. I'd be glad to let people view them in preparation for the study.
I dropped the ball as far as interviewing anyone for this week's blog, but promise to have someone featured next week. So be sure to tune in and see who we'll get the inside scoop on! Last summer we got to know such notable women as Amy, Karen, Helen, Tami, Donna, Nathalie, and Chrissy. For a walk down memory lane, search the archives for the blogs of last June and July to read about these ladies.
By the way, I tried to leave comments about your comments last week, but for some reason my computer wouldn't let me! So even though you didn't hear back from me, please know that I LOVE it when you leave a comment or two, and read every one.

How is it possible that it's already Monday again? Since the sun is still shining as I write this, I figure I'm squeaking in under my self-imposed deadline of getting the blog posted on MonDAY. It ended up being a busy day starting with some Zumba in the morning, and then I must confess, I played the rest of the day. It's my dad's 83rd birthday and I would have been a terrible daughter not to go over to McMinnville and spend time with him and Mom, right?
Last week my blog was riddled with parentheses and I promised to try to write a whole issue without using any. So we'll see how I do today. :-)
The big news for this week is that our follow-up to Loving Well begins this Thursday, June 9th, 10 AM at the church. Most of you have the journal and the goal is to have gone through the questions contained in Week One. We won't be covering all the questions during our class time, but we'll discuss some of the most important ones. This week we'll try to hit these:
~Am I growing in my ability to love others more openly with more vulnerability?
~Do I love others better than I did five years ago?
~Do you really believe God loves you? Why or why not?
~Have you asked God to heal your heart from the inside out to keep you from becoming hardened and so your love will not grow cold?
~What positive changes might result if you allow God complete access to your heart?
~Have you avoided some potentially healthy relationship because you were afraid of getting hurt?
Next week I will be leading the same session--Lesson One--again, but it will be on Wednesday, June 15th, 6:30 PM at the church. So pick whichever day works best for your schedule, and join us, whether you've got the book or not. Remember that childcare is not provided, and we aren't furnishing coffee and dessert like we do at Common Grounds during the year. You'll need to bring your own goodies if you want them. Please try to be on time, as I'd like to keep each session no more than one hour and fifteen minutes. I'm really excited about the time we'll spend together, as I've found the questions to be challenging.
The evening of Saturday, June 18th, is one you'll want to mark on your calendar. The men's group will be hosting an Ice Cream Social at the home of Kent and Kathy Fordyce. This event is for all adults--single or double scoops. In other words, you don't have to have a date; you can come by yourself. I've heard that childcare will be provided at the church, but I don't know any other details. So be watching for more info in the church announcements, as well as next week on this blog.
The sun is getting low, so I'd better get this sent off to you. I think I did it--really did it--as I don't see any parentheses running around this week. Writing without parentheses is like talking without using my hands! It cramps my style, but is probably good for me to do every now and then. But watch out next week, as I may have to put twice as many in to make up for today.
For these next few monthsI'm going to resume the interviews I did with WOW ladies last summer. So be watching for a beautiful picture and inside info about one of your friends, coming soon to a blog near you!
