Monday, December 13, 2010 WOW-Zine

She's baaaack!! Yep, I'm back to normal, at least as much as that is possible for me! Thanks again for all the prayers and concern on my behalf. I'm know that the Lord has intervened in my health and I'm looking forward to a wonderful Christmas season with you gals ...

Beginning with our WOW Christmas party this Wednesday at 6:30 PM. What a great time we'll have! Bring 4 dozen cookies if you'd like to participate in the cookie exchange. It's a wonderful way to get to sample the cooking talents of our women. (And you only have to share with your family if you want to!) Please bring a wrapped, white elephant gift with you. The key to this being a lot of fun is that you don't go out and buy something new to give to someone. Look around your house, under the bed, in the attic, and find something that you no longer want to have. I know what I'm bringing--it's something new but I've never used as it simply wasn't my taste. But someone else may fall in love with it! (If not, they can regift it at our party next year!) We will provide child care at this event. Annika will be there and money given toward babysitting will help fund her mission trip to Mexico. If you bring children, please be aware that they will be in another room and not part of our festivities. So maybe send along a snack or two for them.

All good things must come to an end, or at least that's what I've heard, and that means Christmas too. So on Wednesday, December 29th, we will meet at 6 PM for an Undecorate the Church party. Pizza and soda will be provided, so please bring $5 to cover the expense of your dinner. We'll play Christmas music one last time as we take down the tree, tuck decorations into tubs, eat, and laugh together. It would be helpful if you'd let me know you're coming. (No children at this event, please.)

The time is quickly approaching when we will open up registration for our spring retreat to the general public. You don't want to miss out on gathering with a bunch of crazy women as we get together at a fantabulous beach house in Lincoln City, March 4th-6th. We'll be kicking back in the 40-seat home theater to be encouraged by Beth Moore via a DVD series. Loving Well will be a challenge to apply biblical truths to the people around us. Your $80 will cover Friday dinner, Saturday breakfast and dinner, as well as Sunday breakfast and your stay at this beautiful house. (See http://www.vrbo.com/ #309670) Saturday afternoon will be free time for your shopping, hiking, and dining pleasure.

So, I'll see you all on Wednesday evening for our Christmas party. And if you've never been able to make it to a WOW event before, this would be a great time to change that!

  1. It is such a relief to have you back to "normal". These events just would not be the same if you were in any other condition. lol.

  4. No sweets for me (well, coffee doesn't count!)
I am over my budget in the pants department. They just don't fit, and I've let myself go once again. Enough Yo-Yo for me, I need to work on this because I'm a sucker, especially during the holidays. Please be praying for me to be healthy. Whether I lose weight doesn't matter, I just want to know that I'm not gorging on food. I'm confessing and asking for encouragement from my sisters in Christ! I can do this again, God is my Helper. Any way we can do some kind of group on the side for others who maybe want to get healthy with me. Include walks, prayer, writing down what we eat, that sort of thing?
    Please HELP!!

  5. Hi Sherrie,
SO GLAD you are back to feeling better! Thanking the Lord for answered prayers. Amen.

I've come across a something great from Bible Gateway to share with all the Wow gals.. a Christmas devotional to do online. Here is the link for anyone who may be interested in sharing the Christmas story with friends and family. It starts today and goes through Dec. 30.

  6. Nathalie, I love your idea! I have been thinking the same thing- I need to practice some self-control in the area of eating! The weight doesn't matter, but honoring God in my eating does. I'd be willing to do some journaling or accountability with ya!

  7. Thanks, Darci and Amy A! You guys are really fast on the comments!! Now, Chrissy, I only said that I was through HAVING the jerks, not BEING one!! It will be fun to have you at the Undecorate Party too.
Nathalie, I certainly hear where you're coming from. This is a calorie-loaded time of year! But white elephants, if you roast them and eat only the white meat, are very healthy! So please come even if you don't do the cookie exchange. And I think we should seriously think about your suggestion of an accountability program for those of us who would like to get healthier during the coming year. A weekly exercise group to be part of our own personal exercise program?? We have pictures to prove what a great workout leader Chrissy is! Or Amy R is certainly someone that can lead us. I don't want to run any marathons, but I'd like to be part of a weekly exercise group at the church. That's one of the things I wanted to get going this year, but haven't really persued. You're the impetus I needed! Any other ideas, ladies? BTW, I have found http://www.sparkpeople.com to be a wonderful place for support and keeping track of what I eat. Maybe we need to have a Salad Supper after the first of the year to sit around and discuss what we could do.
Margie, thanks for the link to the devotional online. I'm going to head over there now to check it out!

See you all on Wednesday, wearing your Christmas sweaters, jewelry, etc!
